Configuring Windows Hello for Business

This article will explain how to configure Windows Hello for Business (WHfB).

Windows Hello for Business (WHfB) is a security feature in Windows 10 and later that provides a more secure and convenient way for users to sign in to their devices and access resources. Instead of relying on traditional passwords, WHfB uses biometric authentication (like facial recognition or fingerprint scanning) or a PIN.

When you set up Windows Hello for Business (WHfB) with biometrics, you are also required to set up a PIN. This is because the PIN acts as a backup authentication method in case the biometric method fails (e.g., if the fingerprint reader or facial recognition camera isn't working properly).

Note: In order to use Windows Hello for Business, you have to install and set up the Microsoft Authenticator App.

Setting Up WHfB:

1. Right-click on the Start menu and select Settings > Accounts > Sign-in options.

2. Select PIN (Windows Hello), then click Set Up.

3. Click OK, then approve the sign in request from within the Microsoft Authenticator App.

4. Set up your new PIN, then click OK. It must be at least 6 digits, can only contain numbers, and will not accept number patterns.

5. You have now created a Windows Hello PIN that you can sign in with. You can also set up face or fingerprint if you choose to.

Tip: You can switch between sign in methods (if you have multiple set up) at the login page by hitting "Sign-in options".
