Connecting to Davey Wireless (Corporate Wi‑Fi)

Updates to Davey Wireless

Overview

Recently, we updated how devices authenticate to the network to improve security and reliability.

Instead of using traditional username and password authentication, Davey Wireless now uses certificate‑based authentication. This change is being deployed automatically to company‑managed devices via Microsoft Intune, our mobile device management system.

This article explains what changed, who is affected, what to expect when connecting, and how auto‑connect works.

What Changed and Why?

The name and availability of Davey Wireless have not changed. What has changed is how devices are authenticated when they connect.

Company‑managed devices now use digital certificates to verify their identity on the network. These certificates are issued automatically by IT and are tied to approved users and devices.

Why This Change Was Made

  • Stronger security – Certificates are more secure than passwords and harder to compromise.
  • Better protection of company data – Only trusted, managed devices can connect.
  • Smoother experience – Devices can connect automatically without prompting for credentials.
  • Improved reliability – Fewer connection issues caused by expired or changed passwords.

Who Is Affected?

This update applies only to company‑managed devices that are enrolled in Intune and meet security requirements.

Supported platforms include:

  • Windows
  • macOS
  • iOS (iPhone)
  • iPadOS (iPad)

Personal devices can still connect to the Davey Guest Wireless network as usual.

What to Expect When Connecting

Once your device receives the updated configuration from Intune:

  • A new security certificate is installed automatically.
  • The existing Davey Wireless network profile is updated.
  • Your device should connect automatically when you are in range.

In most cases, you do not need to take any action.

Apple Devices: Privacy Warning

On iPhone, iPad, and macOS, you may see a Privacy Warning when connected to Davey Wireless.

What This Means

  • This warning indicates that certain enterprise network security features may limit Apple options such as Private Wi‑Fi Address or iCloud Private Relay.
  • This is expected behavior for a managed corporate network and does not indicate a security issue.

No action is required. Your connection remains secure.

Auto‑Connect Behavior

Davey Wireless is configured to auto‑connect so company devices automatically use the secure corporate network when available. If your device doesn't auto-connect, you may have a different network configured for auto-join. Steps to manage auto-connect are in the section below.

What You Might Notice

  • Your device connects to Davey Wireless without prompting.
  • Short delays during connection while certificates are validated.
  • Wi‑Fi switching if signal strength changes.

These behaviors are normal for certificate‑based enterprise Wi‑Fi.

How to Turn Off Auto‑Connect (Optional)

If you prefer not to automatically connect to Davey Wireless, you can disable auto‑connect on your device.

macOS

  1. Open System SettingsWi‑Fi.
  2. Click Details next to Davey Wireless.
  3. Turn off Auto‑Join.

iPhone / iPad

  1. Go to SettingsWi‑Fi.
  2. Tap the next to Davey Wireless.
  3. Turn off Auto‑Join.

You can re‑enable auto‑connect at any time by reversing these steps.
